Punjab does not have a single drop of water to spare: Amarinder

AMRITSAR : Congress Deputy Leader in the Lok Sabha Capt Amarinder Singh today asserted that Punjab did not have a single drop of extra water to spare for other states like Haryana. “Come what may, we are not going to let anybody take a single drop of water”, he warned, while addressing public rallies at Attari and Majitha organised by Tarsem DC and Laly Majithia near here today.
Later addressing at Majithia grain market, Capt Amarinder said Punjab revenue minister Bikram Singh Majithia reciprocal justice he meted out with the Congressmen. He said, Majithia will not be able to return to this place (Majitha) when Congress comes to power in Punjab in 2017 elections.
Referring to recent statement of the Haryana Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar that he will press for the completion of the Satluj-Yamuna Link Canal (SYL), the former Punjab Chief Minister said, there have been water sharing agreements in 1955 and 1977 and every state including Haryana, Rajasthan, Himachal Pradesh and also Punjab are getting the water that is due to them under these agreements and there was no extra water in Punjab to spare for anybody. “We can neither afford nor allow even a single drop of water to spare for any other state”, he made it categorically clear amidst gathering.
Responding to the demand by senior party leader from here Laly Majithia seeking action against Bikram Majithia, Capt Amarinder promised that he (Bikram) will not be able to enter Majitha when Congress comes to power in 2017. He said, not only will each and every false FIR he got registered against the Congress workers be cancelled, but he will also be subjected to reciprocal justice in equal measure. “This is no dictatorship, but democracy”, he warned Majithia, telling him, “your time is up and your countdown has begun and you will soon run for cover as I will make you pay for all your sins and excesses you committed on our people”.
He also had a dig at union minster and Bikram’s sister, Ms Harsimrat Kaur Badal for saying that their (Capt Amarinder’s) family had lot of money in the foreign banks. “Tell me where is the money and I promise, I will give you all that money”, he told Ms Badal, while sending the audience into fits of laughter. He said, the entire Badal family had run amuck and got into panic after he had started the mass contract programme and they were not able to make out what to do and what to say.
Lashing out at Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal, Capt Amarinder challenged him to spell out one single achievement during the last eight years in power. “Tell me what you have done during all these years except for amassing huge wealth that runs into billions and billions of rupees”, he asked, while wondering, what will Mr Badal do with this much of money when he is so old. “I am surprised over his (Badal’s) never ending greed for money and wealth even at this advanced age”, he remarked. He suggested to the Chief Minister to approach the Prime Minister to ensure that the Food Corporation of India (FCI) does not stop purchase of wheat and paddy on the MSP. He said, the purpose of MSP was to ensure that the farmers do not have to go for distress sale. But, he regretted that whole system was being scrapped and Mr Badal was not bothered about it.
