UP, Punjab lead in cash, drug seizures during polls

New Delhi, February 21 : The Election Commission said over Rs 70 crore litres of liquor, Rs 173 crore in cash and Rs 108 crore drugs were seized in four states where the Assembly elections are being held, with the maximum recoveries made in Uttar Pradesh and Punjab.
The seizures were made in states, including Goa, Punjab, Uttarakhand and Uttar Pradesh.
In Uttarakhand, Rs 3.38 crore cash, liquor worth Rs 3.10 crore and drugs and narcotics worth Rs 37.23 lakh were seized. In Punjab, 58.02 crore in cash, liquor worth Rs 13.36 crore, drugs and narcotics, which included heroin, ganja and capsules, etc, all worth Rs 18.26 crore, and gold and silver worth Rs 26.14 crores were seized.  Over Rs 2.24 crore in cash, liquor worth Rs 1.07 crore, drugs and narcotics worth Rs 33.21 lakh and 175 wrist watches “Rado” all worth Rs 55.55 lakh were confiscates in Goa.In Uttar Pradesh, Rs 109.79 crore in cash, liquor worth Rs 52.50 crore, drugs worth Rs 7.22 crore and gold and silver worth Rs 25.15 crore were confiscated.
