Youth bodies ‘ban’ Akalis’ entry in Muktsar village

Muktsar : The Punjab Students’ Union (PSU) and Naujawan Bharat Sabha (NBS) today put up a hoarding at the entrance of Chak Gandha Singhwala village in the district “banning” the entry of deputy chief minister Sukhbir Singh Badal and Union minister Harsimrat Kaur Badal.
The student bodies are seeking the unconditional release of 11 students who were arrested for allegedly damaging the bus of a Gidderbaha-based Akali transporter in Faridkot town on May 6.A similar hoarding — “banning” the entry of Akali leaders -– had been put up by these two unions at Deep Singh Wala village in Faridkot district on July 6.
Gagan Sangrami, zonal secretary, PSU, said, “The hoarding has been put up to show that the people are annoyed with the state government because of its dictatorial attitude. If Sukhbir Singh Badal or any other leader tries to enter this village, we will gherao him. We also demand action against DIG Amar Singh Chahal, DSP Baljeet Sidhu and the Akali transporter for thrashing the arrested students.”
The hoarding reads: “If Sukhbir, Harsimrat or any other Akali leader of Muktsar tries to enter this village, we will gherao him or her for implicating innocent students in a fake case.” The activists of these two unions have announced a complete bandh in Faridkot town on July 15.
The bus-damaging incident had happened when many protesters, including members of the PSU and the NBS, were staging a demonstration in Faridkot against the death of a teenage girl who was allegedly molested and thrown off a bus in Moga on April 29. The activists of PSU and NBS have staged many protests in Faridkot demanding the unconditional release of the arrested students. Meanwhile, the police have intensified their vigil in the village to prevent any untoward incident.
