Punjab DGP rules out revival of militancy in state

ROPAR : Punjab Director General of Police Mr. Suresh Arora today ruled out the possibility of revival of militancy in the border state. He was talking to newsmen during his visit to inspect the Sadar Police station here.Mr. Arora said that question of revival of militancy doesn’t arise and police is keeping close watch on the developments. He was asked the specific question on the apprehensions of revival of militancy after regrouping of radical Sikh elements.In reply to another question Mr. Arora said that Punjab Police was reviewing the system of VVIP duties performed by the policemen and police officials at the lower level are forced to do duties beyond their 8 hour shift. He said that the prevailing system was about 30 years old and it is required to be replaced with the help of modern technology. He said that he was himself going to police stations around the state to see practical problems in the functioning of police force.DGP said that he had seen that most of the police stations were under staffed and even the sanctioned strength of staff is not available. He said that he would take remedial measures to update the police stations with modern technology and provide adequate staff. He said that the image building of police starts at police station level. If dealing of the police officers would be good with the general public, a positive message would go to masses.He refused to comment on the statement of Deputy Chief Minister Sukhbir Singh Badal that actions of Congress party were anti-mational. “No comments”, he quipped. On the point of certain foreign powers trying to disturb peace in Punjab, Mr. Arora said that matter was under investigation so he would not like to comment on it.
