CHANDIGARH: Punjab Chief MinisterParkash Singh Badal today deeply mourned the sad demise of Mr. Brij Bedi, husband of former Indian Police Service (IPS) Officer and BJP leader Mrs. Kiran Bedi, who passed away after brief illness.Recalling the services rendered by Mr. Brij Bedi, a renowned photographer and social activist, the Chief Minister said that he would be ever remembered by the people for his philanthropic deeds and commitment for the service of mankind.Sharing his heartfelt sympathies with the members of the bereaved family, the Chief Minister prayed to the Almighty to grant eternal peace to departed soul and strength to the bereaved family members and friends to bear this irreparable loss.Meanwhile, Punjab News Express Editor Satinder Bains also condoled the demise of Brij Bedi. He said that death of Brij Bedi was major loss of citizens of Amritsar and his admireres all over the state. He said that Brij Bedi had dedicated his life to social cuase and he launched cleanliness drive in city many times. He would remain alive in the hearts of his admireres, Bains said.Brij Bedi was a known face in Amritsar. He motivated the residents of infamous Maqboolpura colony of holy city to shun drugs. Maqboolpura is also known as colony of widows since large number of males had died due to drugs.He along with Ajit Singh, a teacher, had started a school — ‘Citizen Forum Vidya Mandir’ – in 1999, which was meant for children of families affected by drugs in the state. He was also appointed Chief Traffic Warden and he himself was seen controlling traffic on busy roads.He is the man behind success of his wife super cop Kiran Bedi. He encouraged Kiran to take up civil services exams after their marriage and helped her to persue her career in Indian Police Service.
