Chandigarh : Shiromani Akali Dal president and Deputy Chief Minister Mr. Sukhbir Singh Badal today said the victory of party candidate Ravinder Singh Brahmpura in the Khadoor Sahib assembly by-election with a huge margin was an endorsement of the policies of the SAD as well as governance model of the SAD- BJP government. In a statement, Mr. Badal said this historic victory had also completely rejected the left out main players who had boycotted the poll. “The real reason for the boycott is that both the Congress and AAP realised they would face a humiliating defeat”, he added.
Strongly castigating the Congress and AAP, SAD president said AAP had tried its luck earlier in Talwandi Sabo and Patiala by-election. He said the Congress could not find a suitable candidate in Dhuri by-election but was forced to adopt the grandson of ex-CM Surjit Singh Barnala who also could not face the SAD wave,” he said. The Deputy CM said Congress and AAP were indulging in leveling false and baseless allegations on the state government and even asked the electorates to boycott the voting but the aware people of the Stare had given a befitting reply to them by rejecting their sham propaganda on the day of Sangrand. Attacking the opposition, he said now both parties should sit back and carefully introspect on their negative misinformation against the government as Khadoor Sahib voters had shown the mirror to the divisive forces. He categorically said the result of this by election is a precursor to the 2017 assembly elections as opposition was destined to face the same fate due to their divisive politics whereas SAD-BJP government had been focusing on inclusive development of Punjab. Presenting facts he said the vicious propaganda of these parties about panthic vote and rural Sikh vote has also proven wrong because in the previous election SAD had polled approximately 63,000 votes but this time SAD got approximately 83,000 votes. “This indicates a positive swing in favour of party which proves that the anti-incumbency against present regime is only present the on social media and political speeches of opposition. On the ground there is a positive incumbency in favour of the SAD”, he added. Deputy CM asserted that the SAD-BJP coalition would again trounce the twice rejected Congress and AAP in the general assembly elections in 2017 with its pro-people programs and development agenda which would change the face of Punjab in the coming years. He reiterated commitment of SAD-BJP government to continue working for rapid development of Punjab and would usher an era of development and progress of state in this year.
