Punjab assembly adopts bill to de-notify land acquired for SYL canal

CHANDIGARH: Punjab Vidhan Sabha today adopted bill to denotify the land acquired for SYL. The bill moved by Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal says, land will be given to farmers free of cost. The SAD-BJP government in Punjab is opposing construction of SYL canal to carry water from Ravi and Beas rivers to Haryana. The center government in which both SAD and BJP are partner is however in favour of construction of canal. The center government has submitted in the Supreme Court that Punjab Act to nullify all inter-state water accords passed in 2004 is illegal.
