5 killed on way back from wedding in Gidderbaha

Gidderbaha : Five persons, including three women and two kids, were killed on Saturday in a head-on collision between a car and a fuel tanker near Daula village on Malout-Bathinda highway at the boundary of Muktsar-Bathinda districts.
Two persons, a man and a girl, were injured.They were returning to Sadulshahar in a Tata Indigo car after attending a wedding at Bathinda, when the mishap occurred around 6.30 am.Those killed in the mishap were Garima (26), her daughter Ganesh (2), Nirmala Devi (50), Ritu Rani (26) and her daughter Maria (2). They were residents of Sadulshahar and Aboha.Those injured were identified as Naveen Kumar, husband of deceased Garima, who was driving, and Eleena (4), daughter of deceased Ritu Rani.
Naveen had fractured his arm, while Eleena’s condition was said to be critical, and she was referred to a hospital in Bathinda from Civil Hospital, Gidderbaha.
Some activists of the Rahat Foundation, Gidderbaha, had taken the injured and deceased to the hospital in Gidderbaha. “We got the information at 6.45 am. We went to the spot and took them to the hospital,” said Parveen Bansal, an office-bearer of the Rahat Foundation.
The driver of fuel tanker (PB 22 F 9647) fled from the spot after leaving the vehicle behind.
Balluana police post in-charge said, “We have started inquest proceedings under Section 174 of the CrPC. The fuel tanker driver has fled, but the mishap took place after a blue bull came in front of the car. We are investigating it.”
