Amritsar Journalists protest against Bikram Majithia, burn his ‘Raavan’ effigy

AMRITSAR : The Amritsar based journalsits under the banner of Chandigarh-Punjab Journalists Association led by President Jasbir Singh Patti today took out a protest march in the city against Punjab Public Relations and Information Minister Bikram Singh Majithia and burnt his ten headed ‘Raavan’ effigy for not taking any action against the police officials who lathi charged journalists on September 7 last. The journalsits sit on dharna in front of Circuit House and blocked the traffic to lodge their protest. The journalist body has also gave a call to journalsits all over the state to boycott SAD-BJP government and not to vote for Akali Dal. Jasbir Singh Patti gave an ultimatum to SAD-BJP government that if guilty policemen were not booked and Majithia would not apologize for his misconduct, the journalsits with the support of all social and political organisation block the road and rail traffic in first week of November.
Patti said that journalists would continue their agitation till the time their deamnds are not accepted. He said that Bikram Majithia was an arrogant and dishonest man. He said that his family background was already known to all that they supported britishers in the freedom struggle. He said that now Bkram Majithia was spoiling the youth of Punjab by running drug mafia.
Vijay Pankaj convener of the association said that Majithia shall not take journalsits lightly and said that media has the power to change the corrupt regime. He said that journalists all over the state were hurt by the arrogance of Majithia. Joginder Singh Khaira of Makhu cautined Deputy Chief Minister Sukhbir Singh Badal against the actrivities of Bikram Majithia and said that Majithia would ruing the Badal family. He said that Majithia had ordered an inquiry into the lathi charge on journalists but no action was taken so far. He said that police attacked the journalists when they were peacefully marching to the residence of Majithia to submit their demand charter.
