Patiala : The special investigating team (SIT), constituted to probe the Nabha jailbreak, met today on the jail premises. It sought the deployment of over 400 Punjab Armed Police (PAP) personnel across the state jails and providing modern weapons to the jail staff.
The role of jail officials is under the scanner for allegedly facilitating the yesterday’s attack. The SIT members recreated the scene of crime that lasted less than 15 minutes. It has been decided to “immediately shift” 400 PAP men on jail guard duty as the Punjab Ex-Servicemen Corporation “was found to be ineffective”. “They are not trained for this duty and it is one of the major reasons that the attack was successfully executed,” the source said. The SIT also recommended new weapons, arms and ammunition for the jail staff. “On Sunday, the jail staff had no such vehicle in which they could chase the gangsters,” the source said. The team spent almost over two hours inside the jail. Additional DGP (Prisons) Rohit Choudhary, DIG Patiala Range Amar Singh Chahal, ADGP (Law and Order) Hardeep Dhillon were present.
