Najeeb Jung quits: Subramanian Swamy or Dalbir Singh Suhag – Who will be next Lt Governor of Delhi?

New Delhi : In a sudden move, Lt Governor of Delhi Najeeb Jung on Thursday resigned, saying he will return to academics, “his first love”. Najeeb Jung, who became Lt Governor of Delhi in July 2013, thanked Prime Minister Narendra Modi for help and Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal for association. After Najeeb Jung’s exit, speculation is on rife that senior BJP leader Subramanian Swamy or current Chief of the Army Staff of the Indian Army Dalbir Singh Suhag may become the next Lt Governor of Delhi. Social media is abuzz with speculations that Subramanian Swamy or Dalbir Singh Suhag might take over after Najeeb Jung’s resignation. The Army chief’s term ends this month. Former home secretary Anil Baijal is emerging as the front-runner to replace Najeeb Jung as the Lieutenant Governor of Delhi. Other names that are doing the rounds for the post of Delhi Lieutenant Governor are: Kiran Bedi, Anil Baijal and B S Bassi. The government has not spoken till now on the resignation of Najeeb Jung and his successor. Many believe that Anil Baijal is most likely to become the new Lt Governor of Delhi. Baijal was earlier in the executive council of the think-tank Vivekananda. He also served in as home secretary in the Atal Bihari Vajpayee government.
