Obama, Japan’s Abe to seek reconciliation at Pearl Harbor

Jalandhar : The Kapurthala police have booked Congress MLA Rana Gurjit Singh and two others for Sunday night’s brawl between two groups of party workers over the candidature of ex-MLA Gurbinder Atwal from Bholath.
Rana and his supporters Daljit Singh and Gurpreet S Padda have been booked under Sections 295 A, 506 and 120-B of the IPC and the Arms Act for the fight at Nadala town in Kapurthala.
The turban of Congress worker and ticket-seeker Kulwinder Babbal had been tossed while chairs too were flung as tempers flared up over the opposition showed by them to the candidature of ex-MLA Gurbinder Singh Atwal from the seat, announced last week. A party worker even reportedly took out his revolver and aimed at another leader, leading to tension.
The meeting had been called by the Kapurthala MLA at the residence of Avtar Singh Walia, who was also a ticket-seeker, to take the views of about eight party leaders regarding Atwal’s candidature and draw support for him. Since Sukhpal Khaira left the Congress and joined the AAP, there had been several claimants to the seat. Everyone was reportedly giving his view in a subtle manner but as it was the turn of Kulwinder Babbal, he reportedly showed much discontent over the choice. Atwal is a two-time MLA from Nurmahal, a seat which was dissolved in Jalandhar during the last delimitation.
