SAD leader Arunjot Singh Sodhi arrested in Rs.1.50 crore fraud case

Name of wife of OSD to Sukhbir Badal also figured in the case

CHANDIGARH: The economic wing of the Chandigarh police has arrested Arunjot Singh Sodhi, a Shiromani Akali Dal(SAD) leader in a case of Rs.1.50 crore fraud with a couple in a fake land deal. Sodhi was media advisor to Manpreet Singh Badal President of Peoples Party of Punjab before SAD president Sukhbir Singh Badal persuaded him to join SAD. Sodhi’s services were used to expose alleged bungling in party funds by Manpreet Badal. Sodhi also heads a TV channel in Chandigarh.
Rakesh Jain and Bindu Jain residents of Mohali had made a complaint to Chandigarh police that Sodhi had entered into an agreementr with them in January 2013 for sale fo one acre land in SAS Nagar for Rs.2.5 crores. After the deal was struck Jain paid Rs.1.20 crores against agreement and another Rs.30 lakhs in intalments. Sodhi had shown documents of land in which Jagjeet Singh his driver was the owner of land. When Jain couple made quaries in the registrar office they came to know that Jagjeet Singh had made sale agreement with some Jagtar Singh. Further quaries revealed that Jagjeet Singh and Jagtar Singh both were not owners of land in Manauli village.
Jain lodged complaint with the police and after knowing it Sodhi fled to Maharashtra. The case was registered on January 1, 2015. The police got a tip off last night that Sodhi is hiding in his house at Mohali. The polcie conducted raid and Sodhi jumped the wall to hide in neighbours house. He was pulled out of house by police. The police also impounded Toyota Furtuner SUV which he had purchased from the money taken from Jain.
Sodhi had also deposited Rs.47 lakhs in the bank account of Karamjit Kaur wife of Charanjit Singh Brar OSD to Deputy Chief Minister Sukhbir Singh Badal. Sodhi and Karamjit Kaur are partner in GPS publisher and were taking out a weekly newspaper when Manpreet Badal was Finance Minister. Police is verifying if Karamjit Kaur was also partner in land fraud.
