Mohalla Assi: Sunny Deol in trouble for upcoming satirical film!

Mumbai : Bollywood actor Sunny Deol’s upcoming film Mohalla Assi has landed him in deep trouble. The leaked trailer of the film created a buzz for highlighting the negative side of Varanasi. If news are something to go by then a complaint has been registered against Sunny Deol and Chandra Prakash Dwivedi, the director of Mohalla Assi. The complaint filed by Sarvajan Jagruti Sanstha, an organistion, states that the film has hurt the religious sentiments. The members of the organisation have mentioned that the movie violates moral ethics and portrays Varanasi in negative light. Sarvajan Jagruti Sanstha filed the complaint on Sunday at Bhelupur police station and bans the release of Mohalla Assi. The film’s trailer had a lot of cuss words and portrayed how foreign tourists are exploited in the name of religion. It was quite expected that the film would create a chaos among the religious groups for its content. Set in the post independence period, Mohalla Assi also stars Ravi Kishen and Sakshi Tanwar.
However, the director of the film clarified that the video going viral on youtube is a leaked version and not the official trailer of the film. They have also lodged a complaint for releasing the trailer without consulting the film-makers. Chandra Prakash Dwivedi in his statement mentioned that “There are a few things I want to clarify — this is not the official trailer, it’s a leaked version for which we have lodged an FIR in Oshiwara (Mumbai Police) and Cyber Cell. It’s a conspiracy to malign us and the film. The version has been made in such a way that it shows as if the film is all about abuses and maligns the image of the holy city. That is not true. This is not what our film is all about.” clarifies.
Mohalla Assi is satire based on a popular novel, Kashi Ka Assi, written by Dr. Kashinath Singh. The novel takes a dig on commercialisation of a pilgrimage city and how fake gurus lure foreign tourists. Mohalla Assi is a historical locality based on Assi Ghat located at the southern end of Banaras on the banks of Ganges River.
