Punjab Congress seeks apology from Modi for comparing Badal with Nelson Mandela

CHANDIGARH: Punjab Congress has registered strong protest against Prime Minister Narendra Modi for comparing Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal with Nelson Mandela. Congress has demanded an apology from Modi.Sukhpal Singh Khaira former MLA and PPCC spokesperson in a hard hitting statement said that by comparing a “corrupt and tainted” leader like Badal with the legendary stalwart Nelson Mandela, Modi PM has not only humiliated, dwarfed and belittled Nelson Mandela’s contribution to humanity but has also exposed his own parochial character.Khaira said that the legendary late Nelson Mandela underwent more than 27 years of solitary confinement fighting apartheid and never compromised his ideology for personal petty gains. Mandela came to the centre stage of world politics, when he secured freedom for South Africa from the colonial rule. Thereafter, Mandela was installed as the first elected President of South Africa and applauded worldwide for his glorious contribution to humanity. Showing magnanimity after serving one five year term as President, Mr. Mandela passed on the baton of leadership to the younger generation and retired from politics gracefully.Khaira alleged that on the contrary, Badal at the fag end of his political career is leaving behind a rotten legacy of a failed leader, unable to single out any meaningful achievement either for Punjab or for his community. Badal will be held squarely responsible by posterity for pushing Punjab in the fire of terrorism, that consumed thousands of innocent lives besides ruining the Sikh youth.
