AAP leader questions inefficent and callous role of Capt Amarinder Singh

CHANDIGARH : Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader Sukhpal Singh Khaira today joined issue with PPCC President Capt Amarinder Singh and questioned him for calling Delhi Chief Minister and AAP convener Arvind Kejriwal incompetent.
In a statement here today Khaira said that before pointing a finger at Arvind Kejriwal of being an incompetent CM, Capt. Amarinder Singh must explain his inefficient, callous and absentee role as a legislator and as a parliamentarian. Needless to mention, Arvind Kejriwal has completed one year as a very successful Chief Minister introducing innovative working like the odd-even number scheme, besides rooting out corruption from Delhi.
While a close perusal of Capt. Amarinder Singh’s participation in Vidhan Sabha proceedings as per RTI information from 2007-2014, clearly indicates the fact that he has utterly failed to play the role of an effective and an efficient leader of the opposition.
He said that as per RTI information, during his tenure as MLA in the 13th Vidhan Sabha, Capt. Amarinder Singh is on record of attending the house proceedings for merely 13 days. Similarly, during his stint as MLA in the 14th Vidhan Sabha, Capt. Amarinder Singh before being elected as Member Parliament in May 2014, attended the assembly proceedings for only 3 days.
Capt. Amarinder Singh not only remained absent as a legislator for most of the time but even on the days he attended the Vidhan Sabha sessions, he just sat as a mute spectator and never participated in any meaningful discussions or debates.
As per RTI information, Capt. Singh as MLA from 2007-12 never raised even a single Question during the very important “Question Hour” reserved for elected representatives, to raise matters of public importance. Neither as MLA in the same term did Capt. Singh utilize the facility of “Calling-Attention” motion, where he could have put the government on backfoot.
Though Capt. Amarinder Singh in order to defend himself did speak for 3 hours and 8 minutes during the 2007-12 sessions, but he miserably failed to indulge in any debate in the 14th Vidhan Sabha proceedings from 2012-14, as he is on record of speaking for only 3 minutes and 36 seconds.
Khaira said that his (Amarinder’s) record is no better as Member Parliament from Amritsar in the Lok Sabha, as he has barely attended any sessions nor has he participated in any debate on burning issues facing Punjab and the country. It is also a matter of record, that his presence amongst his electorate outside the Vidhan Sabha and the Lok Sabha, be it Patiala or now Amritsar is equally dismal.
Above stated facts clearly indicate, that Capt. Amarinder Singh has utterly failed to perform his duties as an important leader of the opposition towards his party and the people of Punjab. It appears that, Capt. Amarinder Singh is only interested to somehow manipulate his way to the corridors of power. It is because of such callous, inefficient and ineffective leaders that the graph of Congress party has declined substantially, despite the fact that it had a huge tally of over 45 MLA’s each time. It is also a fact, that the people of Punjab have completely lost hope in the Congress party, due to its ineffective role as an opposition party failing to defend the anti-people onslaught of the tyrannical SAD-BJP government. It is due to the lackadaisical, lazy and feudal leaders like Cpt. Amarinder Singh, that the Congress party has been punished by the people at the hustings twice in a row.
AAP is of the firm opinion that Capt. Amarinder Singh wilfully and purposely kept a low profile as an opposition leader in order to give a free run to his political adversaries, under a well planned friendly game. Khaira said that keeping in view ineffective and doubtful role of Capt. Amarinder Singh as a part time leader, I appeal to the masses of Punjab to reject his candidature as Chief Minister and to give a befitting defeat to both the traditional parties.
