AAP rebel writes to EC over rejection

Khadoor Sahib : Terming the rejection of his nomination a politically motivated move, former AAP leader Bhai Baldeep Singh today wrote a strong-worded letter to the Returning Officer, Chief Electoral Officer and the Election Commission of India.He alleged it (rejection of papers) amounted to poll rigging. Baldeep wrote: “You (RO) failed to judge, in spite of being a quasi-judicial authority, that you were taking a political decision which singularly tipped the political balance of this electoral battle.”He writes: “I am left wondering if your misguidance was merely your ignorance or a deliberate attempt to disenfranchise me from exercising my constitutional right to directly benefit a particular party and its candidate.”Baldeep requested the RO to reconsider his decision of rejecting his papers. “I eagerly look forward to restarting my election campaign. You are also requested to recommend delaying the election to let me make for my lost time because of your flawed decision, causing my candidacy a huge setback,” he stated.Bhai Baldeep’s papers were rejected on the grounds that he could not furnish proof of being a voter in Punjab, a legal requirement.
