CHANDIGARH : The Aam Aadmi Party(AAP) has welcomed the Justice Katju “People’s Commission” report into the Behbal Kalan police firing, demands its implementation in letter and spirit.Sukhpal Singh Khairea AAP spokesperson in a statement here today said that votaries of human rights in Punjab had set up a people’s commission under the supervision of Justice Markandey Katju, to enquire into the illegitimate police firing at Behbal Kalan in the month of October 2015. He said that Justice Katju who retired as a judge of the Supreme Court and Chairman of Press Council of India, carries the reputation of a truthful and an honest legal luminary and social activist. The Katju commission was formed to enquire into the killing of two innocent Sikh youth at Behbal Kalan (Faridkot), in the aftermath of repeated incidents of sacrilege of Shri Guru Granth Sahib ji. People of Punjab were up in arms against the sacrilege of Guru Granth Sahib and were peacefully demanding strict action against the guilty. But unfortunately the Badal government instead of arresting the guilty persons responsible for the sacrilege, ordered an indiscriminate firing and lathicharge on innocent people at Behbal Kalan on 14 October 2015. The police firing left two innocent Sikh youth Krishan Avtar Singh and Gurjeet Singh dead on the spot, while scores of women, men and old people were seriously injured in the brutal use of force. It is astonishing and surprising that the Badal government failed to identify the killers of these innocent Sikh youth and the FIR into Behbal Kalan police firing, remains against unidentified persons till date. This is nothing but the mockery of law as it were the police officers in uniform who had killed the innocent Sikh youth.
