Acting Akal Takhat Jathedar Dhian Singh Mand released from Ferozepur Jail

FEROZEPUR : Acting Jathedar of Sri Akal Takht Sahib (appointed by Sarbat Khalsa 2015) Bhai Dhian Singh Mand was today released from Ferozepur Jail on bail. Bhai Mand’s bail plea was accepted by the Session Court of Ferozepur represented by Justice H.S. Grewal on April 21. Legal Counsel Basant Lal Malhotra convinced the court with his contentions for granting bail in case of blockading the Harike bridge during upsurge of October 2015 protests when saroops of Guru Granth Sahib were desecrated.Sikh activists in large numbers, including Jaskaran Singh Kahan Singh Wala (Shiromani Akali Dal Amritsar) and Satnam Singh Manawa (United Akali Dal) received Bhai Dhian Singh Mand outside the Ferozepur Jail. Bhai Mand was first booked under sedition charges for participating in Sarbat Khalsa and later on the complaint of Partap Singh, Sri Harmandir Sahib manager, for disturbing environment of the sanctum sanctorum on Bandi Chhor Diwas. Following his release in these cases cases, his name was added in the FIR registered against unknown miscreants for blockading Harike Bridge. Warmly welcoming Jathedar Dhian Singh Mand’s release, President of Shiromani Akali Dal (Amritsar) S. Simranjit Singh Mann said that the the Government had crossed every limit in committing atrocities on Sikh activists. He added that the Badal government and SGPC used every foul strategy to fail Sarbat Khalsa 2015 gathering. He said that the same gathering would again take place this year under guidance of Sarbat Khalsa appointed Jathedars.
