Anti-terror operation underway in Lucknow, suspect hiding in house

Lucknow, March 7 : An encounter broke out on Tuesday between the Uttar Pradesh Anti-Terror Squad and an alleged terrorist who was holed up inside a house at Thakurganj in Lucknow.
The encounter was on when the reports last came in even as the suspected terrorist also opened fired at the ATS personnel.
Confirming that an operation was on, ADG (law and order) Daljeet Chaudhury said they had received inputs about presence of some suspects in Kanpur and Lucknow.
While one suspect has been arrested from Kanpur, the second one is inside a building at Thakurganj, he said.
“We are suspecting presence of only one suspect inside the building. The input came in from outside the state,” the ADG added.
The ATS, based on “concrete” information from intelligence, had gone to apprehend Saiful, suspected of involvement in the blast in a train in Madhya Pradesh, from a house in Haji colony of Thakurganj area when he suddenly opened fire on the team.
Following this, ATS commandos returned fire at Saiful, who was on the first floor. A senior ATS officer is heading the operation, a senior police official told IANS.
