Banur councillor’s husband shot dead

Patiala, September 7 : Unidentified men last night shot dead Banur councillor Preeti Walia’s husband Daljit Singh at Rajjomajra road. Five men opened fire at him around 9.15 pm leaving him critically injured and he later succumbed to his injuries at a private hospital in Mohali. One of his friends informed that Daljit Singh, also called Prince Walia, had gone for a walk along with some of his friends, but a few of them were left behind.
He was accompanied by two friends when the assailants came in a Ford Endeavour and opened fire at him. Daljit’s friends went for a cover, but bullets hit Daljit.
Both his friends have also sustained bullet injuries.
Prince was said to be close to Rajpura MLA Hardyal Kambhoj.
Even though his wife Preeti Walia had contested from ward no 7 independently, the family continued to support Congress after their victory. Daljit was the owner of a boring company and had allegedly been involved in various cases following his tussle with a rival group of the area. The postmortem of the victim is underway. Senior police officers are in Banur to investigate the matter.Meanwhile, the miscreants are said to have forcibly taken away a Swift car after the shooting incident.
