Bhai Pamma’s Extradition Hearing Deferred to Jan 26; Indian Government Fails to Present Evidence

LISBON, Portugal : The Portugal Court has deferred the hearing of Bhai Paramjeet Singh Pamma’s case to January 26. Bhai Pamma is a resident of the UK, current being held in Portugal. He was arrested by the Interpol on demands of the Indian Government.During the hearing today, the Indian government failed to produce sufficient evidence before the court and demanded further time for presenting the evidences to prove Bhai Pamma’s involvement in terrorist activities planned against India. The Portugal Court has granted time of 22 days to the Indian government to produce evidence.Indian government is demanding Bhai Paramjeet Singh Pamma’s extradition from Portugal in a number of cases, namely, murder case of RSS President Rulda Singh, Ambala and Patiala blast cases. Commenting on Bhai Pamma’s case, Sikhs for Justice legal adviser Gurpatwant Singh Pannun stated, “The extradition case is legally flawed because the Interpol warrants against [Bhai] Pamma were issued in 2012 while all the co-accused were later acquitted which leaves the conspiracy charges unsustainable.” Portugal top extradition lawyer Manuel Luis Ferreira has been hired to represent Bhai Pamma, while Mr. Amarjit Singh Bhachu is also assisting. Sikhs for Justice is also providing legal assistance.Meanwhile, UK based Sikh bodies have announced to boost their efforts to prevent extradition of Bhai Pamma to India. Sikh Federation UK will launch a campaign to encourage people to convince their Member Parliaments to raise voice in favor of Bhai Paramjit Singh Pamma. Sikh Council UK and Sikh Organization for Prisoner Welfare are also involved in raising funds to provide legal assistance.
