Brazil detects active Zika Virus in human urine, saliva

Rio De Janeiro, Feb.6 (ANI): Brazilian scientists has revealed that they had detected the presence of the Zika virus in samples of human saliva and urine, a first for Brazil. The Brazilian researchers warned that the virus might have the potential to spread through kissing or urine, but they were quick to point out that this still remains to be proved, reports The New York Times.’It is something we have to further investigate,’said Dr. Myrna Bonaldo, the head of the Flavivirus Molecular Biology Laboratory at Fiocruz, a prominent research institute here.Bonaldo said that they had obtained the samples from two patients with Zika-like symptoms, one was found to have the virus in urine, the other had Zika in the saliva sample.Brazilian doctors have already linked Zika to an increase in babies born with abnormally small heads, a condition known as microcephaly, though research teams are still trying to prove this connection.
