AMRITSAR : Punjab Pradesh Congress Committee president Capt Amarinder Singh today warned against the attempts by the Majithia family to usurp and dilute the heritage status of the Khalsa College Amritsar by seeking to convert this historic institution that is part of Punjab’s glorious heritage, into a private university for pecuniary benefits. He said, in case the Akali government in Punjab decides to use its brute majority to go ahead with passing the act for the university in Punjab Vidhan Sabha, the Congress government will repeal the act in 2017 and restore the heritage status of the college.Learning about Capt Amarinder’s proposed visit to the College, the Majithia controlled management of the college had got the main entrance gate to the college blocked. He had to take an alternate route to enter the college. The students there welcomed him and interacted with him for some time. They also clicked photographs and selfies with him.“Khalsa College is the part of our great heritage and history and not the private property of the Majithias to be usurped”, he told the reporters outside the heritage building inside the campus, while pointing out, leading Punjabi families including his family had made immense contribution in setting up the college that had become the part of history and heritage of the state.“Compared to that Majithias who are controlling the institution right now and want to usurp it, have not even a nominal contribution towards building and setting up this great institution”.
