Cash for jobs: Vigilance arrests Bihar politician

Chandigarh : The multi-crore job recruitment scam that rocked the state last year has also been found operating in Haryana, Telangana and Delhi, even as a prime accused, Kuresh Kumar Dwivedi, was arrested by the Punjab Vigilance Bureau (VB) today.
Comprising members from UP and Bihar, the gang had been procuring examination papers from Delhi-based printing presses where all state governments (or the agency hired  to conduct recruitment for these states) were getting the papers printed.
While ‘Guruji’ Mithilesh Yadav, Shiv Bahadur (both absconding) and Kamlesh Kumar (now deceased) were procuring the papers illegally, Dwivedi examined the documents of the candidates and made them cram the answers before they appeared in the exams.
Sources said he would call the candidates to Delhi, cross-check their documents to make sure that no investigating agency had sent them up to blow the lid off the scam, and upon verification make the candidates cram the answer keys.
Surjit Singh, VB AIG, told The Tribune that Dwivedi was a politician from Arwal district in Bihar. “We are investigating his role in the leak of the PMT paper in Telangana. The candidates were taken in groups to Kolkata, Bengaluru and Shirdi, where PMT question papers were shown to them and the answer keys were given for cramming,” he said.
The investigators believe that he had helped around 25 candidates to cram the leaked question paper in the recruitment of SDOs for the Irrigation Department. He had also brought together 17 prospective candidates for 100 posts of Sub-divisional Engineer (SDE) in the department. He allegedly took original documents of the candidates after they had paid Rs25 lakh on their selection. He gave the answer keys to the candidates at his brother, Jai Dwivedi’s, house.
The exam was conducted by Thapar University, Patiala, on October 16, 2016. “The other conduits in the list are on the run and will be arrested soon,” Singh said.
