DC Mansa takes serious note of polluted village ponds

MANSA : In a serious bid of making village ponds a part of Swachh Bharat Abhiyan, Mansa Deputy Commissioner Dharam Pal Gupta today ordered all the SDMs to take every possible step to get the village ponds cleaned.
He stated that the survey report resented before him by the Health Department portrays an ugly picture of many village ponds in Mansa district. He said that it’s shocking that some villagers are releasing water laced with human excreta and animal waste into the village ponds.
These ponds are actually meant for the bathing and drinking of water for the animals reared in the villages, the DC said. He added that the officials involved in the survey of the village ponds cited numerous reasons behind the release of polluted water into the village ponds.
While excessive use of water from the submersible motors to wash toilets and bath animals is one of the chief reasons behind the overflowing of the village ponds, the washing of toilets and release of animal waste are reasons behind diluting of the pond water.
The Deputy Commissioner stated that the dirty water of village ponds will not only wreck havoc for the health of the animals but it will also severely affect the fitness of human beings. He said that the issue has to be taken up very seriously and very quickly with all the concerned senior officers, employees, villagers, panchayat and the respective village sarpanches.
The Deputy Commissioner asked all the SDMs to personally monitor the progress of creating awareness in this regard by visiting every affected village under their respective areas. He directed the SDMs to hold meetings with the panchayat members and sarpanches to find a permanent solution to the problem.
