Dera followers torch 3 cars; Punjab, Haryana CMs review law and order

Sirsa, August 28 : Reports of unrest trickled in from Sirsa on Monday as followers set light to three cars minutes before Dera Sacha Sauda head of the sect was sentenced.
Violence was reported from Phoolka and Kotli villages in Sirsa. Unrest was also reported outside the Dera headquarters.
Dera chief was given a jail term of 10 years.
Meanwhile, chief ministers of both Punjab and Haryana held separate review meetings. Punjab Chief Minister Amarinder Singh met Punjab Governor V. P. Singh Badnore over security arrangments in the state.
Haryana Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar held a high-level meeting with chief secretary, home secretary, and the state’s DGP, among other people, to review the state’s law and order.
Security had been beefed up in Sirsa hours before the sentence was announced on Monday.
Though the exodus of Dera followers from the sect’s headquarters in Sirsa started Saturday, several supporters of the self-styled godman are still present in and around the sprawling premises.
Locals have been asked to stay indoors as a preventive measure. “We have made appropriate arrangements to maintain law and order in the district,” a senior police official said.
