Dera murder trial: Court to hear Ranjit Singh case daily

Chandigarh, September 16 : A special Central Bureau of Investigation court in Panchkula began hearing final arguments in two murder cases against Dera Sacha Sauda chief Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh amid heightened security on Saturday.
The court is currently hearing two murder cases — one involving killing of a journalist, Ram Chander Chhatrapati, and another involving death of a former Dera manager Ranjit Singh. The court has decided to hear final arguments in the two murder cases separately. Ranjit Singh’s murder case will be heard on a daily basis from Monday, the court said. Chhatrapati’s case will now be heard on September 22.
Meanwhile, the city prepared for the murder trials. Contingents of paramilitary troops and the Haryana Police have been deployed in Panchkula as security arrangements were tightened in Punjab and Haryana.
Ram Rahim Singh, 50, appeared before a CBI special court here through video conferencing from Sunaria jail in Rohtak where is lodged after being sentenced to 20 years in prison in two rape cases.The CBI court is hearing the cases of murder of journalist Ram Chander Chhatrapati and former Dera manager Ranjit Singh.
