Earthquake in Malaysia: Sabah distrcit hit by 6.0 magnitude quake, no casualty

Borneo island : A strong earthquake hit the Sabah distcrit of Malaysia’s Borneo island early in the morning spreading fear among people. According to reports of US Geological Survey, the powerful quake measuring 6.0 on Richter Scale, struck at a depth of 10km, with its epicentre located 19km from the town of Ranau and 54km from Kota Kinabalu in the district of Sabah.The tremors were felt in Kota Kinabalu and other parts of Sabah’s west coast after a magnitude 5.9 earthquake rocked near Ranau district. The earthquake struck 16km northwest of Ranau at 7.17 am, the Malaysian Meteorological Services Department reported. As of now no damage or death has been reported. Strong tremors were felt prompting people to run out from their houses, shops and offices. Several landslide were also reported.Malaysia does experience earthquakes but is outside the Ring of Fire, a belt of seismic activity running around the basin of the Pacific Ocean that includes neighbours Indonesia and the Philippines.
