Farmers’ protest turns violent in MP; two killed in police firing, admn denies

Bhopal, June 6 : Violence broke out on Tuesday during a farmers’ protest in Mandsaur in Madhya Pradesh leading to curfew restrictions and prohibitory orders in the district, the administration said.
According to unconfirmed reports, two farmers were killed and four were wounded after the police opened fired on violent protesters in Bhai Parshnath area, but Mandsaur Collector S K Singh denied them.”Curfew has been clamped in Pipalya Mandi police station area and in the rest of the district section 144 of CrPC has been imposed,” Singh said. Reports said that Chief Minister Shivraj Chouhan had ordered a judicial inquiry into the shooting. Farmers in western Madhya Pradesh have been protesting since June 1 for minimum support price for their produce, among other things. Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan said on Tuesday his government was trying to address their demands, adding that he would set up a price stabilisation fund of Rs 1,000 crore to purchase the produce at a minimum support price.
