Former hockey player and SAD MLA Pargat Singh assaulted by youth in Chandigarh

Chandigarh, Apr 7 : Former Indian Hockey Captain and sitting Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) MLA Pargat Singh was allegedly assaulted by a youth on Wednesday at the market in Sector 9 in Chandigarh. The incident happened over a heated argument over parking space outside the market. Parghat sustained a finger fracture and injuries on his neck.
The youth who was drunk during the time of incident was later arrested and released on bail. He was identified as Kamaldeep, a resident of Sector 22. The incident occurred around 9 pm when Singh and his wife had gone to the market. Talking about the physical abuse, Singh said, “I also sustained fracture in my fingers. Action must be taken against the person.” Singh said that the miscreant also verbally abused him. Singh said, “A drunk person parked his car on the road, I just requested him to give us way. But when I again requested him (drunk person) to give us way, he verbally abused and attacked me.” FIR was registered three hours after the incident.The accused was caught and taken to GMSH-16 for medical examination which confirmed that he had consumed alcohol. A case has been registered under sections 325 (voluntarily causing grievous hurt), 341 (wrongful restraint) and 294 (doing obscene act in public place) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC). According to the police , Kamaldeep is pursuing a diploma course.
