Jobless UP youth killed scribe, mother: Cops

Mohali : Thirtythree days after the brutal murder of senior journalist KJ Singh (65) and his mother Gurcharan Kaur (92) at their residence here, the Mohali police today claimed to have cracked the case with the arrest of an unemployed youth from Bulandshahr in Uttar Pradesh, Gaurav Kumar, residing in Chandigarh’s Kajheri village.  The police have recovered Singh’s Ford Ikon car, his two credit cards and an ATM card besides the phones of both victims. A kitchen knife, with which Singh was stabbed at least 17 times, a watch and a set-top box too have been found.SSP Kuldeep Singh Chahal claimed the accused wanted to avenge his “insult” at the hands of the scribe. “The tiff took place at 3.30 pm on September 22 when Singh objected to the accused sitting in the green belt staring at his house. According to the accused, Singh slapped him and he decided to teach him a lesson.” The SSP claimed the accused was nabbed in Sohana when a PCR team spotted a Ford Ikon. “The fake registration number aroused suspicion. A search yielded a car service slip in Singh’s name. The cops nabbed the driver and Singh’s belongings were recovered from the accused’s house.”
