Justice Waghela swears in as Chief Justice of Bombay HC

Mumbai : Justice Dhirendra Hiralal Waghela was today sworn-in as the Chief Justice of the Bombay High Court, at a swearing in ceremony held at Raj Bhavan in Mumbai. The Governor of Maharashtra Ch. Vidyasagar Rao administered the oath of office to Justice Waghela.The ceremony was attended by Chief Miniter Devendra Fadnavis, Advocate General Shreehari Aney and several ministers and dignitaries.Justice Waghela was serving as the Chief Justice of the Orissa High Court prior to his transfer to the Bombay High Court.He succeeds Justice Mohit Shah who retired on September 8, 2015. Justice Smt Vijaya K Tahilramani was serving as Acting Chief Justice of the Bombay High Court.Born in Rajkot in Gujarat in the family of artists and artisans, Justice Waghela took his masters degree in law LL.M. in 1976-77.He started his own practice in 1978. In the year 1999, he assumed the office as Additional Judge of the High Court of Gujarat.Later in 2013, he was elevated as the Chief Justice, High Court of Karnataka and transferred as the Chief Justice of Orissa High Court in 2015.
