Khadoor Sahib By-Poll To Be Held in February

JALANDHAR : Chief Election Commissioner of Punjab, V.K Singh has stated that the by-poll in Khadoor Sahib will be held in February of this year. This decision has been taken keeping in view the busy schedule of voters in March and April. V. K Singh informed that all the arrangements to conduct by-poll have been completed and the election date might be announced after January 15.It may be recalled here that the assembly seat of Khadoor Sahib Constituency had fell vacant after the resignation of MLA Ramanjit Singh Sikki on October 18 in protest of desecration of Sri Guru Granth Sahib in Bath village. He had stated in his resignation that he was feeling helpless in nabbing the culprits responsible for desecration of holy scripture of Sri Guru Granth Sahib.Soon after the acceptance of resignation of Ramanjit Singh Sikki, Chief Minister Prakash Badal spent almost 10 days in Khadoor Sahib and distributed grants worth Rs. 20 million to the panchayats of different villages. Ravinder Singh Brahmpura (son of Ranjit Singh Brahmpura) will contest the election from Akali Dal (Badal).Bhai Baldeep Singh had already announced to contest this by-election as an independent candidate while the former MLA Ramanjit Singh Sikki is being considered as Congress candidate.
