Khalsa University will not be Property of any individual or Family: Majithia

AMRITSAR: Seeking support from all sections of society for setting up the proposed Khalsa University Amritsar (KUA), Khalsa College Governing Council (KCGC) President Satyajit Singh Majithia today said the affairs of the varsity will be run by duly elected body, which is already running 17 educational institutions. He said the motive behind establishing the centre of higher learning is to promote higher education and research in the border region. He categorically stated that KUA, which will be multi-faculty professional University will not be any `family business’ as being alleged by section of political leaders. He took strong exception to the statement of Congress leaders especially former chief minister and local MP Captain Amarinder Singh that the KUA will `owned’ by one individual or family.“This observation seems to be the outcome of the ignorance or wrong feeding of the information by self interest of some individuals’’, said he adding that Captain must desist from making personal allegations of this sort. He said his family which was associated with historic Khalsa ever since its inception in 1892, had been working hard for the promotion of education even. “My grandfather Sundar Singh Majithia was instrumental in getting the College established which till today is being run by the trust. We have been running educational institutions in Patiala and Gorakhpur which have been handed over to trusts and societies too. Never there was aim to run the institutions as family business’’, said he.Majithia said that the setting of the university was the need of the hour to promote professional knowledge that will make the youth capable for employment. “The KCGC, which will be the governing body to run the university is elected every five year. Captain Amarinder should not bring politics into the educational project and rather join hands to set up the seat of learning which will be boon for the higher studies in the region.
