Lucknow litfest cancelled after BJP student wing protests against Kanhaiya

New Delhi : The Supreme Court on Friday witnessed an unprecedented drama over allegations of bribing judges to procure favourable orders in medical college admissions after advocate Prashant Bhushan asked Chief Justice of India Dipak Misra to recuse from the case as there were direct allegations against him. “What nonsense!” retorted CJI Misra — heading a five-judge Bench — and went on to say, “There’s not even a word in the FIR naming me or anyone else. Read our orders first. I am asking you to read our orders first.”
As the CJI said “you are now liable for contempt”, Bhushan dared the Bench to initiate contempt proceedings, saying, “So issue a contempt.” The CJI responded, “You are not worth it,” much to the surprise of a large number of advocates and mediapersons. It all started with a two-judge Bench of Justices AK Sikri and Ashok Bhushan taking up in the pre-lunch session a petition filed by the Campaign for Judicial Accountability and Reforms, raising the issue of allegations of bribing judges.
