Johannesburg : World number three Rory McIlroy has suggested that he may pull out of the forthcoming Rio Olympics amid fears over the rapid spread of the Zika virus in the host nation. Brazil has been most affected by the mosquito-borne virus that has spread rapidly through Latin America and the Caribbean. It is known to cause the head-shrinking microcephaly and other birth defects.While expressing that he was eager to compete in the Brazilian capital, the four-time major champion, however, voiced his concerns about detrimental effects that the virus could potentially have on his future family plans, Sport24 reported.The Northern Irishman further said his concerns were emanating from some articles that say the situation could be actually worse in Brazil than how it is projected.Meanwhile, McIlroy’s preparations for Rio received a major boost as he sealed his first tournament of the season by winning the Irish Open at the K Club recently.
