Museum on India’s partition to come up in Amritsar, WB team visits city

AMRITSAR: A 5 member team of World Bank today took a tour of heritage sites of holy city OF Amritsar with a view to check the possibilities of creating world class Museum on Partition here. The team visited five sites including Summer Residence of Maharaja Ranjit Singh, Panorama, Town Hall, Gobindgarh Fort and Chaali Khooh.The team led by world renowned economist Lord Meghnad Desai along Kishwar Desai, Malika Ahluwalia, Gitanjali Chaturvedi, Bindu Manchanda was in the city in this regard. The team earlier had a meeting with Punjab Chief Minister Mr. Parkash Singh Badal regarding creation of Museum on Partition. The team first went to Deputy Commissioner Office, which was one of the architectural monuments in the city with a rich construction of British era followed by Summer Residence of Maharaja Ranjit Singh at Company Bagh.Meanwhile at Gobindgarh Fort Kishwar Desai lauded the efforts being made by Punjab Government in the area of heritage preservation and restoration of heritage sites. She said that they felt very impressive to have a look on the ongoing development and heritage preservation initiatives by Punjab at Gobindgarh Fort.She said that Summer Residence of Maharaja Ranjit Singh was also an excellent architecture work with Nanak Shahi bricks at historic Rambagh Garden.She said that they were in the city to observe and take a stock of heritage sites since Amritsar has a rich heritage, cultural and tourism significance.Meanwhile, Deputy Commissioner Ravi Bhagat informed that the World Bank team had held a meeting with Punjab Chief Minister Mr. Parkash Singh Badal and now they personally visited the sites to work out on the selection of appropriate and suitable site for Museum on Partition. He said that after visiting Amritsar the team will meet Chief Minister again to present their view on this issue and then the site will be finalized.Bhagat also informed that the restoration work at Gobindgarh Fort was continuing on war level since Deputy CM Mr. Sukhbir Singh Badal personally monitors the status of work every month.
