Nijjer writes to Prime Minister refuting allegation

Vancouver : Hardeep Singh Nijjar, a Canadian Sikh activist who has been accused of running a terror camp in Mission, BC, has written to Prime Minister Trudeau urging him to dispel Indian government’s fabricated, baseless, fictitious and politically motivated allegations against him.
Nijjar’s June 01 communiqué to Canadian Prime Minister states that “I am a Sikh nationalist who believes in and supports Sikhs’ right to self-determination and independence of Indian occupied Punjab through a future referendum”.”Because of my campaign for Sikh rights, it’s my belief that I have become a target of an Indian government media campaign to label my human rights campaign as “terrorist activities”, the letter further states.Listing his participation in several international Sikh rights events, Nijjar in his letter to Canadian government claims that “in retaliation to my campaign for Sikh rights, my family members living and visiting Punjab have been a target of police harassment”.In April 2015, Indian police illegally detained my father who is a resident of Canada and my brother who is a Citizen of UK. During the detention they were warned by the police that “if Nijjar did not stop his anti-India campaign, we will implicate him in criminal cases and will confiscate all the landed property of your family in India””.
“Indian authorities often label Sikh activists as terrorists, who are simply trying to raise awareness in Canada about human rights violations being committed against Sikhs in the Punjab” according to New York based human rights attorney Gurpatwant Singh Pannun, who is presently in Vancouver to coordinate legal defense for Nijjar.
“Nijjar is being termed as “terrorist” only because he engaged in a political campaign for a referendum in Indian occupied Punjab.” “We will defend Nijjar against any attempt to extradite him to India” stated SFJ legal advisor attorney Pannun.Nijjar’s letter to PM Trudeau concludes, “My Sikh nationalist activities are peaceful, democratic and protected under the Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms”.
Human Rights advocacy group “Sikhs For Justice” (SFJ) announced that they will coordinate Nijjar’s legal defense against Indian government’s attempt to extradite him from Canada.
