No let-up in suicide by farmers, count up by 2

Sangrur : A day after two farmers ended their lives in Bathinda district, two more farmers allegedly committed suicide at Ubhawal and Mangwal villages of Sangrur today. The police have started investigations in both cases.
Sources said Hardev Singh of Ubhawal went to his fields this morning and hanged himself with a tree. Some villagers spotted the body and informed his family. The deceased’s family members said he was under stress due to a debt of around Rs 8 lakh taken from a bank and private money lenders.
Nirmal Singh, incharge, Badrukhan police post, said: “Hardev had taken a loan and failed to repay it. He was under stress these days and consequently hanged himself. We are conducting further investigations.” In the second incident, Harjinder Singh of Mangwal allegedly consumed some pesticide last evening following which he was rushed to hospital where he died today. His neighbours said he was under stress as he failed to repay a debt of around Rs 4 lakh.Ranjit Singh, SHO, Sadar, said: “Last evening, his family members told us that he had taken some medicine by mistake. We are probing the matter.”
