‘Over 100%’ marks in Class 12 spell trouble for candidates

Chandigarh : A section of the candidates selected for recruitment as constables in the Punjab Police is facing rejection. A scrutiny of their documents has revealed that they claimed “over 100 per cent” marks in the Class-12 examination, thus getting additional points (out of 15) for educational qualification and going up the merit list.
Over 300 such cases have been detected so far. The documents are being checked by the district police heads since October 26. The exercise is being conducted for 7,173 successful candidates.
Over 6 lakh applicants took the test for about 7,000 posts. The recruitment board did not verify the documents earlier, saying that it was impractical and time-consuming to do so for so many candidates.
Director, Recruitment, ADGP IPS Sahota said those on the waiting list would move up the ladder and get appointment letters if their documents were found to be in place.
He said many of the 300-odd candidates under the scanner seemed to have mixed up the maximum and minimum marks column in the application forms. “Some candidates filled the maximum marks in Class 12 in the minimum marks’ column and vice-versa,” he added.
