Pakistan Sikhs Take Important Decisions for Guru Arjan Dev Ji’s Shaheedi Purab

AMRITSAR SAHIB, (May 7 2015)—In a meeting, Pakistan Sikh Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (PSGPC) has decided to observe Shaheedi Purab (martyrdom day) of Guru Arjan Dev Jee, fifth Guru of Sikhs, on June 16 as per original Nanakshahi Calendar at Gurdwara Dehra Sahib Lahore.
As per press release sent by PSGPC general secretary Gopal Singh Chawla through journalist Manpreet Singh, the meeting was led by president Sham Singh. Various important decisions were taken during the meeting. It was decided in the meeting to invite Pakistan lawmakers, government representatives and Sikh Sangat from throughout the world on Guru Arjan Dev Ji’s shaheedi purab so that the holy day could be marked with great devotion and respect.
It is noteworthy that Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhal Committee (SGPC) and Delhi Sikh Gurdwara Management Committee (DSGMC) will observe the Shaheedi Purab on May 22 as per amended Nanakshahi calendar. So, both the panels would send Sikh Jathas for May 22. However, they may face problems in getting visas from Pakistan authorities as the day is being observed in the country on June 16.
