Panj Pyare Ultimatum Stresses SGPC President Avtar Makkar

AMRITSAR SAHIB : The ultimatum served by Panj Pyares (the five beloved of Guru) of Akal Takht Sahib to dismiss the Takht Jathedars by January 2, has pushed the SGPC President Avtar Makkar into a flurry of activity.While calling a meeting of the SGPC executives to find a solution to the situation, Avtar Makkar has started challenging the existence of Panj Pyares and has even said in an interview published in Hindustan Times that the duty of Panj Pyares is only baptism and they need to work under SGPC. He has said that there are three types of Panj Pyare at the Akal Takht Sahib. The first performs baptism, second leads religious processions and the third type attends religious programs.
