Political Sikh Prisoner Baj Singh Set To Be Released From Amritsar Jail

AMRITSAR SAHIB : According to information from reliable sources, the Punjab government is due to release Bhai Baj Singh from Amritsar jail. He had been languishing in jail since 1993. The state government has agreed his release and this may happen in the coming hours after the completion of legal documentation. It is notable that the Punjab government is releasing Sikh detainees as per promises made to the Bandi Singhs Rihai Sangharsh Committee, spearheading Bapu Surat Singh Khalsa’s yearlong peaceful struggle.Confirming developments, Bhai Bhawandeep Singh Sidhu said that the SSP Ravcharan Brar informed him of the Government’s move of releasing political Sikh prisoner Bhai Baj Singh. He added that SSP Ravcharan Brar was asked by Akali Dal’s spokesperson Dr. Daljeet Singh Cheema to deliver the information to the Bandi Singhs Rihai Sangharsh Committee. It may be recalled that Bapu Surat Singh Khalsa has been on hunger strike since January 16, 2015 seeking the release of political Sikh prisoners. His peaceful struggle forced the Punjab government into transferring Professor Devinderpal Singh Bhullar and Bhai Gurdeep Singh Khaira to Punjab. The credit for recent releases of Bhai Waryam Singh and Bhai Hardeep Singh also falls with Bapu Surat Singh Khalsa’s struggle.
