Polling on in Gurdaspur; sporadic incidents of violence reported

Gurdaspur, October 11 : Polling to the Gurdaspur parliamentary constituency began amid sporadic incidents of violence with SAD-BJP leaders blaming Congress MLAs for inciting locals. The constituency has nine assembly seats of which seven are represented by ruling party legislators. Five SAD workers, including Happy Pahra, a former Akali sarpanch of Pahra village, the native place of sitting Congress MLA Barindermeet Singh Pahra, suffered serious injuries. All five are recuperating in the civil hospital. SAD spokesman Daljit Singh Cheema claimed that the police were not registering an FIR despite the fact that Happy Pahra had lodged a complaint.
“The police is being pressed by Congress MLAs. Happy Pahra suffered a serious head injury, yet the cops are not acting,” Cheema said.
