Protest at Roseville Sikh temple leads to fight

ROSEVILLE : A fight broke out Thursday night during a protest outside a Sikh temple, Roseville police said.Dozens of protesters, including children, were outside the temple at 1090 Main Street demonstrating against a guest who spoke against a beloved saint.“He’s trying to redefine the Sikh faith. The beliefs which we have held close to our hearts for centuries together, he wants to redefine them,” protester Gurtej Singh said. “And that’s why these people came along and said, ‘we are not going to take this nonsense stuff. You are a heretic.’”The protest became heated and spilled onto Main Street, prompting a large police presence. Roseville police said it is unknown how many people were involved, arrested or injured.The demonstrators are planning another protest in Yuba City Friday night.
