Punjab Congress condemn arrest of Jarnail Singh who slapped Maluka

CHANDIGARH : The Congress party has strongly condemned the vidictive arrest of Jarnail Singh who slapped rural development minister Sikandar Singh Maluka and demanded to register cross case of attempt to murder against Maluka for mericless beating of old man who expressed anguish against sacrilege cases. Sukhpal Singh Khaira former MLA and PPCC Spokesman today in a statement said that the way the Bathinda police has hounded and arrested Jarnail Singh, it appears the DGP Suresh Arora has failed to keep his lofty promise of fairness even for a few days. Khaira said that a BKU activist Jarnail Singh had slapped and heckled Maluka a few days back during a public meeting. Thereafter, the Akali goons of Maluka had severely thrashed Jarnail Singh publically, who was later hospitalized due to serious injuries. The said Minister in order to save his face from the humiliating incident gave a public statement, that Jarnail Singh had not slapped him or taken off his turban and that the issue was blown out of proportion by the media. If the Minister’s statement is believed to be true, then why has the Bathinda police arrested Jarnail Singh under various criminal charges? Let us for a moment presume, that the Minister was lying and that Jarnail Singh had actually slapped him, hence he should be booked for his unlawful action as complained to the police by Kuldip Chand PA of the Minister. But what action has the police taken on the statement recorded by Jarnail Singh and his son, that the Akali “Goonda’s” on instructions of Sh. Maluka took him away from the scene and beat him up mercilessly in their custody for three hours which left him unconscious? Doesn’t the DGP think that it’s a fit case to cross charge the Minister u/s 307, abduction and conspiracy?
