Punjab Congress infighting: Bajwa, Amarinder again lock horns on leadership issue

CHANDIGARH: Punjab Congress President Partap Singh Bajwa and Congress Deputy leader in Lok Sabha and Amritsar MP Captain Amarinder Singh today once again locked their horns and snubbed each other on the issue of PPCC Presidentship.Bajwa in a statement issued here today ruled out any support to Capt Amarinder in any capacity. Certain reports had appeared in the media that Bajwa would accept Capt Amarinder Singh as PPCC President. Bajwa refuted the reprots and said that his statement was distorted. He said that he went to Fazilka to meet farmers where he met the press and his remarks were published out of cotext.“Capt Amarinder Singh has committed a grave indiscipline by attacking twice the party Vice-president Mr Rahul Gandhi. He must unconditionally and publicly apologise to Mr Gandhi for this violation of discipline. Linked to his violation of party discipline is the speculation about his floating a new party. He must categorically rebut such speculations after offering apology”, he demanded.Debunking the statement ascribed to him, Bajwa said that as a loyal and disciplined soldier of the party, every leader and activist was duty bound to unquestioningly abide every decision of the high command as this was basic to the functioning of the oldest party in the country whose sole objective is total commitment to the people. He made it clear he was no exception.Capt Amarinder Singh later in the day rebutted the Bajwa’s statement saying “Who cares about Bajwa?” He added “Bajwae should better keep his unsolicited opinions to himself when he knows that nobody takes him seriously”.Referring to Mr Bajwa’s frequent “simian somersaults” and two contrary statements in a span of two days recently, Capt Amarinder remarked, “it is so characteristic of his (Mr Bajwa’s) personality that he so frequently resorts to simian somersaults thus vindicating the popular belief that he is mentally and intellectually not equipped to hold the position he is desperately trying to cling to”.
