CHANDIGARH: The farmers led by Inderjit Singh Zira President of Kisan cell of Punjab Pradesh Congress Committee (PPCC) today burnt the effigy of Punjab Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal for its failure to make payment of Wheat procured from farmers.
The police meanwhile resorted to lathi charge to disperse the Congress workers when they marched from Congress Bhwawan in sector 15 to gherao the residence of Punjab CM.The protesters raised anti-Badal slogans and held him responsible for rising number of suicides by farmers in the state. Zira while addressing farmers said that farmers were under heavy debt due to wrong policies of SAD-BJP government. He said that Badal family was promoting its business interests at the cost of economy of state. He said that Congress party was capable of giving justice to farmers.
He demanded immediarte payment of crop to the farmers. He said that state agencies had procured the Wheat but not even a penny is paid to fafrmers.He said that Wheat was not lifted from mandis even after one month of start of procurement season.
In a letter written to Badal, the Congress leader alleged that Badal had turned blind eye to drug trade being run by his family memebrs. He said that Badal was responsible for sacrilege of Guru Granth Sahib at several places.He said that Badal had ruined Punjab and still he has no remorse.
