Punjab Congress set for revamp, Bajwa, Jakhar submit resignations

CHANDIGARH: Punjab Congress is set for total revamp after the PPCC President Partap Singh Bajwa and CLP leader Sunil Kumar Jakhar today submitted their resignations to allow the party high command to appoint news state president and CLP leader. Capt Amarinder Singh former Chief Minister may replace Bajwa, the sources said. The sources in AICC told Punjabnesexpress.com that Congress is aiming to compete with Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) for the 2017 assembly elections. The party has failed to pick up the momentum under the leadership of Partap Singh Bajwa. The SAD has targeted him on issues of land grabbing and his families past of smuggling across the border. Bajwa and Captain Amarinder are at logger heads ever since the party hich command appointed Bajwa as state president. Captain Amarinder Singh enjoys support of majority MLAs who are keen to see Captain Amarinder as party President. Bajwa had taken the stance that party had lost twice under the chairmanship of Capt Amarinder Singh but at the same time he failed to command the party. Bajwa is likely to be shifted out of state politics and Capt Amarinder Singh may occupy the center state. However if Capt Amarinder Singh becomes state party president, it may help the SAD to return to pwoer due to division in anti Badal votes. Aam Admi Party (AAP) has made inroads into Punjab and hoiping to win the 2017 assembly elections. However, the Congress may dent the hopes of AAP thus helping SAD to return to pwoer.
